Chicago Specific Know Your Rights Information

We wanted to share important information regarding the recently announced large-scale immigration raids targeting immigrant communities, set to begin as early as Tuesday.Tom Homan, the incoming "border czar" and former acting ICE director, , confirmed in a Fox News interview that Chicago is among the targeted cities. He emphasized that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would focus on major urban areas like Chicago, operating with fewer restrictions. Homan also threatened to prosecute Chicago's mayor if there is non-cooperation with federal immigration enforcement efforts, following his December visit where he criticized the city’s sanctuary policies. To help prepare, we are sharing Know Your Rights (KYR) posters tailored for Chicago, available in both Spanish and English. These resources aim to empower and inform communities about their rights during this time.

Chicago Number: In Chicago Call ICIRR’s Hotline 1-855-HELP-MY-FAMILY (1-855-435-7693)

Please distribute this information widely and keep these resources handy. Community is the best form of defense.

Everyone has rights under the U.S. constitution regardless of immigration status. Many community members have protected themselves and their families from immigration enforcement because they were prepared, they knew what their rights were, and knew how to react when their rights were under threat. Below are some resources for you to know your rights in case of a raid or other encounter with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The first section includes information that you and your community should know before any possible encounter with ICE agents.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: Immigration & The Workplace

Workplace raids are a common immigration enforcement tactic, often targeting industries reliant on immigrant labor, such as agriculture and food service. These raids disrupt businesses and deeply impact immigrant communities, which depend on these workplaces for economic and social stability. Community owned businesses are central to immigrant communities and play a crucial role in community and economic support. Below are two resources and guidance for community businesses. Review the resources below.
